Big Break

Abhinav Kashyap’s major success came in 2010 with his directorial debut *Dabangg*. The movie, starring Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha, became one of the highest-grossing films of the year. It was released on September 10, 2010, and immediately turned actors and the director into household names.

Abhinav co-wrote the script along with Dilip Shukla. The film introduced Salman’s iconic character “Chulbul Pandey,” a fearless but funny cop. The movie’s success revived traditional Bollywood “masala” cinema and brought back the single-screen magic. *Dabangg* also marked Sonakshi Sinha’s debut and won several awards, including the Filmfare Award for Best Film. After the success, Abhinav was celebrated as one of Bollywood’s brightest young directors.

Second Break

Abhinav Kashyap’s second film as a director was *Besharam*, released on October 2, 2013. The movie starred Ranbir Kapoor, Pallavi Sharda, and veteran actors Rishi and Neetu Kapoor. Despite a big star cast, the film failed both critically and commercially.

The poor performance of *Besharam* hurt his confidence and his relationship with the industry. After that, he did not direct another movie. He continued writing scripts and occasionally appearing at film events, but he largely stayed away from the mainstream.

Personal Life

Abhinav Kashyap married writer and television producer Chatura Rao in 1997. The couple had two daughters but got divorced in 2017. During this period, Abhinav faced personal and professional challenges. Media reports suggested that his public disputes and industry tensions also affected his personal life.

After his divorce, he was rumored to be in a relationship with model and actress Simran Kaur Suri in 2015. Reports said they were seen together at events and shared photos online, but the relationship ended soon.   He often speaks about how the highs and lows of Bollywood have changed him. In recent interviews, Abhinav mentioned that he faced mental stress due to isolation and industry politics.

Relationship

Though Abhinav and Anurag Kashyap are both directors, their bond has often been described as distant. They share respect for each other’s work but follow very different film worlds. While Anurag became known for raw and realistic stories, Abhinav preferred commercial, popular themes like *Dabangg

In public interviews, both have said they do not mix personal life and professional work. Their sister, Anubhuti Kashyap, also followed the same path and directed the comedy *Doctor G* in 2022, showing that filmmaking runs in the family.

Abhinav Kashyap in 2025

As of October 2025, Abhinav Kashyap remains in the headlines more for his opinions than for his films. He recently criticized not only Salman Khan but also Shah Rukh Khan, claiming that stardom in Bollywood has become “a game of marketing” rather than acting talent. His statements on October 9, 2025, about celebrity culture attracted mixed reactions. While some agreed with his frustration about power and favoritism, others felt his tone was too harsh.

Today, Abhinav is seen as a rebellious figure — someone who speaks against the system, no matter the cost. Despite his controversies, he is respected by some for being brave enough to challenge Bollywood’s biggest names.

Legacy And Image

Abhinav Kashyap’s journey is full of drama, courage, and lessons. From creating one of Bollywood’s most popular films to watching his own career struggle afterward, his story reflects both the bright and dark sides of the film industry.

Even though he hasn’t made a new film since *Besharam*, people still remember *Dabangg* as his landmark work. Abhinav continues to express his views openly on social media and interviews, not afraid to question the powerful.
