Shatrujeet Kapur started his IPS training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad. After training, he was assigned to the Haryana cadre. His initial postings included roles such as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in different districts like Gurugram and Hisar. He also served as District Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Bhiwani and was responsible for highway patrol and road safety in Karnal.

Kapur's career took an international turn when he served in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo in 2001-2002. This experience broadened his view of law enforcement beyond India’s borders and contributed to his leadership skills.

Returning from the UN mission, Kapur joined the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), where he worked on important cases involving corruption and economic offences.
